Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been hired to pen the film version of the James Siegel novel “Deceit” for Universal. The drama thriller involves a big city journo who’s shipped off to the hinterlands for concocting stories, so when he really discovers a cover-up involving secret government radiation testing, his credibility is questioned. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing. 8/2
Jason Keller has been hired to adapt Tom Sniegoski’s tome “Sleeper Code” for the silver screen by Warner Bros. The thriller involves a narcoleptic who discovers that he doesn’t actual suffer from the sleep disorder after his psychologist is murdered. Peter Donaldson, Stacy Maes and Jay Sanders are producing. 8/2
Jared Rivet has been tapped to write the US remake of “Dead Daughters” for Gold Circle Films. The Russian-language horror original is about three ghostly sisters who lash out at sinful people. Paul Brooks is producing, while Scott Niemeyer and Norm Waitt are executive producing. 8/2
Paul Dano and Daniel Day-Lewis have been cast to star in “There Will Be Blood” for Paramount Vantage and Miramax Films. Auteur Paul Thomas Anderson is writing and directing the early 1900s drama which is loosely based on the Upton Sinclair novel “Oil!” and shows how greed and corruption affects a small Texas town where oil is discovered. Scott Rudin is producing the project. 8/2
Hugh Jackman and John Palermo (Seed Prods.) have been tapped to produce an update of “Carousel” by Fox 2000. The original musical drama originated by Rogers & Hammerstein in 1945 is about an ill-tempered man who is killed in a foiled robbery, goes to limbo and is granted a single day to help a troubled teen fix his problem. Jackman is probably going to star in the film. 8/2
Chris Parnell, Diedrich Bader, Arabella Field, Mink Stole, Matt Malloy, Colin Fickes, Joel Michaely and MaKenna Marks have been tapped to top-line “Sunny and Share Love You” for Rinky Dink Amusements and Celebrity Ashtray Prods. The comic mockumentary written by Michele Mulroney and Micah Schraft (who are both also starring) and being directed by Matthew Buzzell follows a reunion between a couple of 90s pop stars. Brian Gerber and Field are producing. 8/2
