Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have sold their pitch “Step Brothers” to Columbia Pictures. The buddy comedy is about adult sons whose elderly parents fall in love and marry, creating sibling conflicts. McKay will direct, while Ferrell and John C. Reilly will star. Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller are producing. 8/4

Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to “Hellboy 2.” The supernatural action franchise went into turnaround when Revolution Studios went under. The sequel’s script has been written by Guillermon del Toro, who will return to direct. Ron Perlman and Selma Blair are signed on to star as well. Lawrence Gordon, Mike Richardson, Lloyd Levin and Joe Roth are producing, while Chris Kenney is executive producing. 8/4

Agnieszka Vosloo has agreed to write and direct “After.Life” for Constellation Entertainment. The supernatural thriller is about a young woman in limbo whose destiny rests in the hands of a funeral director. The Collective is also providing financing. 8/4

In Fox news: First, John Scott Shepherd and Todd Holland have sold their spec “Amy After Dark” to the Century City studio. The supernatural horror thriller is about a female NY lawyer who realizes that she’s a vampire. Holland is attached to direct and produce. The project was initially set up at 20th Century Fox TV.

Also, Allan Loeb and Christian Taylor have sold an Untitled Undead Pitch to Fox. The horror story is about a police investigator who harbors a secret: he’s been around for centuries. Loeb will pen the script, while Steven Pearl (Scarlet Fire Films) will produce. 8/3

Newbies Scott Neustadter and Michael M. Weber have been tapped to write “The Pink Panther” sequel for MGM/Sony Pictures. The mystery-comedy follows the further exploits of Inspector Jacques Clouseau, with Steve Martin reprising the role. Robert Simonds is producing, with Elizabeth Cantillon shepherding for the studios. 8/3

B. Clay Moore and Jeremy Haun have sold the film rights to their comic book “The Leading Man” to Universal. The action adventure series follows Nick Walters, a top Hollywood star who moonlights as an international secret agent. Marc Platt will produce, along with Eric Gitter (Closed on Mondays Entertainment). Adam Siegel and Jared Leboff will develop the film for Platt, while Jeffrey Kirschenbaum is doing the same for the studio. The project is out to writers. 8/3

Chris Noth has been tapped to star in the indie film “Frame of Mind.” Carl T. Evans wrote and will direct the thriller about a cop who discovers a deadly cover-up that leads all the way up to the Federal government. Evans is also starring and producing the project, along with Noth and Charles Kipp. 8/3

Macaulay Culkin, Alexis Dziena, Kuno Becker and Eliza Dushku have been cast in the indie film “Sex and Breakfast.” Written and to be directed by Miles Brandman, the dark comedy is about a young couple whose marriage is suffering from bedroom dysfunctions, so their sex therapist recommends that they engage in orgies as a cure. Steven Brandman, Chip Diggins and Andy Adelson are producing. 8/3

Michael Brandt and Derek Haas have been hired to pen the film version of the James Siegel novel “Deceit” for Universal. The drama thriller involves a big city journo who’s shipped off to the hinterlands for concocting stories, so when he really discovers a cover-up involving secret government radiation testing, his credibility is questioned. Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is producing. 8/2

Jason Keller has been hired to adapt Tom Sniegoski’s tome “Sleeper Code” for the silver screen by Warner Bros. The thriller involves a narcoleptic who discovers that he doesn’t actual suffer from the sleep disorder after his psychologist is murdered. Peter Donaldson, Stacy Maes and Jay Sanders are producing. 8/2

Jared Rivet has been tapped to write the US remake of “Dead Daughters” for Gold Circle Films. The Russian-language horror original is about three ghostly sisters who lash out at sinful people. Paul Brooks is producing, while Scott Niemeyer and Norm Waitt are executive producing. 8/2

Paul Dano and Daniel Day-Lewis have been cast to star in “There Will Be Blood” for Paramount Vantage and Miramax Films. Auteur Paul Thomas Anderson is writing and directing the early 1900s drama which is loosely based on the Upton Sinclair novel “Oil!” and shows how greed and corruption affects a small Texas town where oil is discovered. Scott Rudin is producing the project. 8/2

Hugh Jackman and John Palermo (Seed Prods.) have been tapped to produce an update of “Carousel” by Fox 2000. The original musical drama originated by Rogers & Hammerstein in 1945 is about an ill-tempered man who is killed in a foiled robbery, goes to limbo and is granted a single day to help a troubled teen fix his problem. Jackman is probably going to star in the film. 8/2

Chris Parnell, Diedrich Bader, Arabella Field, Mink Stole, Matt Malloy, Colin Fickes, Joel Michaely and MaKenna Marks have been tapped to top-line “Sunny and Share Love You” for Rinky Dink Amusements and Celebrity Ashtray Prods. The comic mockumentary written by Michele Mulroney and Micah Schraft (who are both also starring) and being directed by Matthew Buzzell follows a reunion between a couple of 90s pop stars. Brian Gerber and Field are producing. 8/2

Don Rhymer has been hired to write “Hotel Transylvania” for Sony Pictures Animation. The comedy follows Frankenstein’s monster, the Mummy, Count Dracula the Vampire and the Wolfman as the quartet finds refuge from the modern world in a rundown hotel and try to figure out their next step. Anthony Stacchi and David Feiss are co-directing the feature, which is being produced by Michelle Murdocca. 8/1
